The MDM (Mobile Device Management) feature in the Uproot Security platform helps organizations monitor, manage, and secure employee devices from a single place. It provides continuous visibility into key device security controls, including disk encryption (for example, FileVault on macOS), firewall status, malware protection, password policies, screensaver and lock screen timeouts, logging and monitoring configurations, and operating system security updates.

MDM works through the Uproot Agent, which securely connects each device to the Uproot platform.

What is the Uproot Agent?

The Uproot Agent is a lightweight background application that runs on user devices. It enables secure communication between the device and the Uproot Security platform.

Once installed and connected, the agent:

  • Syncs device details to the platform
  • Continuously checks device security settings
  • Reports compliance status for MDM monitors
  • Runs silently in the background without interrupting the user

When the agent is running, the Uproot logo will be visible in the taskbar, indicating that the device is actively connected.

How to Download the Uproot Agent

Before a device can be monitored through MDM, the Uproot Agent must be installed.

After downloading the agent, the connection process is quick and automatic.

  1. Stay on the same Uproot Agent download page.
  2. Locate the Connect Agent section.
  3. Click the Connect Agent button.
  4. The agent will automatically launch on your machine.
  5. It will authenticate using your session and connect securely to the Uproot platform.
  6. Once connected, the agent will continue running in the background.

You can confirm the agent is active by checking the taskbar for the Uproot logo.

What Happens After the Agent is Connected?

After successful connection:

  • The device appears in the MDM → Devices section
  • Device details such as OS, owner, and sync status are visible
  • Monitors evaluate security controls and show results as Passed, Failed, or Pending
  • Issues display only failed findings and clearly show which devices are affected

The platform continues to sync device data automatically, ensuring up-to-date visibility without manual intervention.

Supported Security Checks in MDM

Uproot MDM continuously evaluates multiple device-level security controls, including:

  • Disk Encryption (e.g., FileVault on macOS)
  • Firewall status
  • Malware protection
  • Password policies
  • Screensaver and lock screen timeout
  • Logging and monitoring configuration
  • Operating system security updates
